Commissioners approve non-smoking policy for buildings

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Monday night to make all county facilities smoke-free, with the exception of the prisoner area at the county jail.

A Sparta woman was facing driving while impaired and other charges after the 1985 Chevrolet van she was driving struck another vehicle and rammed the outside wall of the Sparta ABC Store.

School bond vote is set for this Tuesday

March 11 will mark the end of a campaign by local schools to issue $7.5 million in bonds to fund the construction of a new Middle School in Alleghany County.
