About $1,200 was raised during a "Womanless Beauty Pageant" held last Saturday night at the Sparta School Auditorium. The event, a fund- raiser for the Alleghany Relay for Life, was sponsored by Alleghany High School senior Katie Boger as a graduation project.

Boger said the event was the first large event she had ever organized and was a learning experience. "I was a bit overwhelmed," she said. "Everyone had fun."

Twelve contestants took part in the competition, which ended with Michael Davis being selected as "Miss Relay for Life" at the end of the night. Davis received $75 cash, which he donated back to the Relay, and a homemade coconut pie that was made by Sharon Davis. "He kept the pie," Boger said with a laugh.

First runner up was Jacob Ferraro and second runner up Michael Davis, shown doing a routine to the song "Mickey," took top honors for his performance during Saturday night's event.
