Heart Auction to begin

The 41st Annual WCOK Heart Fund Auction will begin this weekend. The auction will be aired beginning Saturday morning at 9:35 a.m. and will continue through the station's sign-off, which usually takes place around nightfall (6 p.m.).

Items being auctioned are on display at the Seasons Gifts and Home Décor (in the former Smithey's building) on South Main Street in Sparta. Alleghany Heart Association President Cornelia Reeves said Monday that the items for auction will be divided between the first auction date this week and the concluding auction, set for Feb. 23.

Those interested may listen to the auction by tuning in WCOK at 1060 AM or by turning on Channel 8 on Alleghany Cablevision. Those wishing to place bids may call the station at 372-8231, 372-8302 or at the special line installed especially for the auction by Skyline Telephone at 372-8090.

"Three operators will again be on standby to answer calls this year," said Reeves. "We're looking forward to a great auction." In addition, Reeves said that auction items are still being accepted and those may be donated by contacting long-time auction volunteer Virginia Setzer at 372-8495.
