Three-time State Champions
The Alleghany High School wrestling team celebrates after winning its
third straight 1-A state dual championship last Saturday at
Robbinsville High School. The Trojans, who were on the road for the
entire tournament despite being the top seed from the western half of
the state, defeated Polk County 46-27 in the first round Feb. 5 at
West Wilkes High School in Millers Creek, and beat the host
Blackhawks 39-26 in the second round. They beat Robbinsville 40-22 in
last Saturday's semi-final match, and downed Topsail 37-28 in the
finals, also marking the third straight year Alleghany beat Topsail
in the finals.
