Election filing opens Monday

Filing opens at noon on Monday, Feb. 11 for several local and district offices, said Alleghany Elections Director Kate Cosner.

Seats open in the 2008 election include two county commissioner seats, the register of deeds, two school board seats, the N.C. Senate District 90 seat and the N.C. House District 30 post. The primary is May 6 and election is Nov. 4. Alleghany will also have a school bond referendum on March 11.

"We are looking at a very exciting election year," said Cosner. Interest is especially high locally in the school bond referendum and the presidential election. More people are registering to vote, she added.
