In just over a week, the 41st annual Heart Fund Auction will start airing on local radio station WCOK (1060 AM). Over the course of two consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23, a number of items will be sold to benefit the American Heart Association.
The auction will start at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday and run until the station signs off the air those evenings. Alleghany Cablevision customers may listen to the action on Cablevision's Channel 8.
About 50 items were on the auction block as of early afternoon Jan. 31, according to long-time heart fund volunteer Virginia Setzer. Just a few of them are an original painting by Peg Saunders of Sparta, handmade items such as a wormy chestnut pie safe, a chestnut bird house, jelly cabinet and pottery platter; homemade treats including cakes, pies and jellies; a long pickup load of dry firewood, music CDs, VHS movies and Fraser fir Christmas trees.
Other items up for grabs include an eight by 10 autographed picture of Alan Jackson, 30 minute massages, rounds of golf and a short stay at Myrtle Beach.
Some of the auction items are on display in the front window of Seasons Gifts and Home Decor on South Main Street.
