Gordon hired as extension agent
By LAURA THORNBURG
Staff
places throughout her life, Jacquelyne Gordon—a native of Eastern
North Carolina—has found herself at home here in Alleghany, recently
beginning her job as a Family and Consumer Science Agent with the
N.C. Cooperative Extensive Service.
Her first day on the job was Monday, Jan. 14. Gordon took the
position left vacant by Sherrie Peeler, who had held the position for
about three-and-a-half years. Peeler left around October 2007 to take
a job that would allow her to be closer to her family, according to
County Extension Director George Stancil.
Education
While Gordon holds bachelor's and master's degrees from North
Carolina State University, she noted she is of the opinion a great
deal of education comes through experience.
"I do believe that no matter how much you go to school and get that
kind of training, the experiential training that you get in knowledge
and information from other people is the most valuable you'll ever
get from anyone."
Over the years, Gordon has taught middle and high school students
with disabilities in Boston, Mass. and Apex. She also worked with
the N.C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation/N.C. Dept. of Health
and Human Services, which is an agency that works with individuals
with disabilities to assist them
Jacquelyne Gordon started her new position as Family and Consumer
Science Agent with the Alleghany office of the North Carolina
Cooperative Extension Service on Jan. 14.
