Donors—A total of 53 people answered a call by the American Red Cross to donate blood during a drive hosted by the Sparta Lions Club at the Sparta United Methodist Church. In the photo at right, Jane Wallace of Sparta donates blood, assisted by nurse Tammy Talley.

In the photo at left, Gary Smith of Sparta, assisted by nurse Jennifer Love, donates blood as several other local residents wait their turn. According to Carolyn Sprinkle with the Lions Club, 30 people came to the church within the first two hours of the drive.
