First Snow
Photos by Coby LaRue
Alleghany County received its first snowfall of note
last Thursday (Jan. 17), as between 3.5 and six inches blanketed the
landscape. In the photo below left, roads like this stretch of the Blue
Ridge Parkway were definitely 'the road less traveled' since they
are not scraped or salted.
However, the scenic byway did offer many
opportunities to enjoy picturesque views of streams, landscapes and
animals. Much of the snow that fell on Thursday remained on lawns and
hillsides in the county early this week as a cold front that moved
through prevented it from melting completely.
