Acts of crime and violence have doubled in Alleghany County Schools as compared to last year’s numbers, according to information released Dec. 5 by the Department of Public Instruction.

A public needs safety assessment is under way in Alleghany at the request of the county commissioners.

Local business owner, elder die in county

Two local men, one a bus driver and operator of a small engine repair shop and the other a local pastor, died just before the Christmas holiday.

Community Tree

The community Christmas Tree, placed on the lawn of the Alleghany County Courthouse by the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce, was lit last week.
