Building ministry may not return

According to a press release from Carolina Cross Connection (CCC),
Camp Elk Shoals—a West Jefferson-based camp that has been housing CCC
campers since 1991—will not be accommodating CCC campers in 2008 and
possibly not in the foreseeable future.
That will mean that Alleghany County will not be served by the
ministry until another location can be found. Throughout the years,
the ministry has helped build ramps, decks, and other simple home
improvements for those in need in Alleghany and surrounding counties.
CCC officials stated that the cause behind the change is the fact
that the area of the Elk Shoals camp that has long been rented by CCC
has been condemned by health inspectors, following an examination of
the facilities.
Ed Adams, the chairman of the board for the Elk Shoals Methodist
Camp, clarified that, as of Oct. 1, there were changes in the law
regarding inspection of cooking facilities. The inspector who looked
at the building indicated it would not meet the new requirements.
"It has to do with the indoor kitchen," Adams explained.
