Christmas tree quality high due to timely late-season rain

Late season rains came in just in time for the Christmas tree crop in Alleghany County and statewide, contributing to better initial hydration, color and overall freshness, said David Isner with the Alleghany office of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.

Building ministry may not return

According to a press release from Carolina Cross Connection (CCC), Camp Elk Shoals—a West Jefferson-based camp that has been housing CCC campers since 1991—will not be accommodating CCC campers in 2008 and possibly not in the foreseeable future.

The Razors Edge Skate Park, an Eagle project of Life Scout and high school freshman Coalbey Murphy with Boy Scout Troop 299, is anticipated to open in May 2008.
