Georgia Warden (74K) Georgia Warden

After 40 years, Warden retires from tag office

After about 40 years in the Alleghany License Plate Agency, Georgia Warden finally decided to retire. Her office closed for the final time last Friday, Nov. 16.

The 85 year old has been working regular hours at the office since 1967, when she and her late husband Cecil opened it inside their Western Auto Store.

The license plate agency has had several locations in the interim, including stints in both shopping centers and several places around town.

Warden noted that, to her knowledge, it was the first and only such agency that had ever been operated here.
