Sparta Town Council election set for Tuesday

The Sparta municipal election will be held this coming Tuesday, Nov.
6, at the Sparta Town Hall.
Up for election are three seats on the non-partisan Sparta Town
Council, which are being sought by three incumbents and one political
newcomer.
Seeking re-election are Councilman Robert Andrews, Mayor Pro Tem
Agnes Joines and Councilwoman Lois Sheets. Seeking election for the
first time is Ryan Lane.
Andrews was first elected in 1999 and has served two terms on
council, Sheets was first elected in 2003 and has served on term on
council and Joines first was elected in 1995 and has served three
consecutive terms on council.
Newcomer Christopher "Ryan" Lane is seeking to win a first term on
council. Lane works for the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office and
volunteers for the Alleghany Rescue Squad.
Each person on the town council is paid $125 per month salary,
regardless of the number of meetings attended.
The election will be held at the Sparta Town Hall at 304 South Main
St., on the lower level of the building accessible by the rear
parking lot. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
The election will be overseen by the Alleghany County Board of
Elections Office. Only those registered and residing within the
town's limits may vote in the election. Absentee ballots are not
allowed in the town election.
