Laurel Springs man dies in Roberts Road car accident

A 61-year-old Laurel Springs man died in a single-vehicle accident last Saturday night on Roberts Road.

Auditorium update cost is $2.5 million

Frank Williams, a representative with Pinnacle Architecture in Matthews, made two suggestions to the Alleghany County Board of Education Monday for coming up with the $2.5 million needed to renovate the Sparta School Auditorium building.

Couple to found newcomers' club

Newcomers to the area will soon be given the opportunity to learn more about Alleghany County with a Newcomers Club that is open to exploring different parts of the county.

Deadline to register for town election is Friday

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 Sparta Town Election is Friday, Oct. 12, according to information provided by the Alleghany County Board of Elections.

The Alleghany Fire Prevention Parade will be held on tonight, Oct. 11.

Tom Doughton, a former commissioner, dies

Claude Thomas "Tom" Doughton Jr., a former Alleghany County Commiss- ioner, died Oct. 3 at the age of 67.
