Commission discusses loan funds with schools

Qualified Zone Academy Bonds (QZAB) were discussed during the joint meeting of the Alleghany County Board of Education and the Alleghany County Commission.

County eyes QZAB options

According to data provided by County Manager Don Adams to the Alleghany County Commission at their meeting Monday, the only concrete option thus far for funding the school systems' Qualified Zone Academy Bond request would tack on interest to the loan in the amount of 1.47 percent.

State Auction

Numerous small and large pickup trucks, trailers, pieces of heavy equipment, tractors, trailers and other surplus state equipment were sold at auction at the Alleghany Fairgrounds last week.

Burning ban is lifted statewide

Recent rains across the state have allowed the N.C. Division of Forest Resources to lift its ban on open burning for all 100 counties in North Carolina.

Middle School talks continue

The Alleghany County Board of Education and the Alleghany County Commission agreed to continue discussion of possibilities of a potential middle school at a joint meeting Monday evening.

Ukrainian student visits Alleghany family

As a birthday present to herself, Inna Zhekova, a 16-year-old student from the Ukraine, took part in a 4-H program that allowed her to travel internationally, ultimately bringing her to Alleghany County.

Heritage Festival is Saturday

The Mountain Heritage Festival is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
