Heritage Festival is planned Sept. 22
From Staff Reports
The annual Mountain Heritage Festival is planned for Sept. 22 in
downtown Sparta.
The event, which leads to the closure of Main Street from 6 a.m.
until 6 p.m., is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.
The festival spreads over a half-mile section of Sparta, ranging from
near Doughton Street on the north to Cheek Street in the south.
Some 90-plus vendors are expected to sell food, art and craft items.
Musical entertainment and dance performances will be featured
throughout the day at the north and south stages. The north stage is
located at the intersection of U.S. 21 and N.C. 18 (Main and
Whitehead streets), while the south stage is located on Main Street
near the intersection with Cheek Street.
Several thousand visitors are expected to enjoy music and dance,
admire displays of antique tractors and cars, witness the festival's
Possum Queen competition and crowning, see mountain heritage
demonstrations, enjoy a variety of food and shop for handmade crafts.
There is no charge for admission.
