The Cycle North Carolina Fall Ride will pass through the southern
edge of Alleghany County en route to Elkin after getting started this
year in Ashe County.
The ninth-annual ride will begin in West Jefferson on Sept. 29 and
finish in Currituck on Oct. 6. Overnight communities include Elkin,
Greensboro, Mebane, Louisburg, Roanoke Rapids and Edenton.
Three years ago, the event began in Sparta and local officials had
been hopeful that it could start here again.
Bob Bamberg, executive director of the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce,
said, "It’s a great way to show off our community. We look forward to
an opportunity to host the starting point of this event in the future."
Event Director Reagan Williams, who plans the route for the event,
said the route is still in the planning stages.
