Town OKs skaters' park plan

Sparta Town Council agreed Aug. 7 to allow planning to proceed towards a skate park being constructed at Crouse Park. Alternatives for a location include a vancant lot, formerly the location of Troutman Shirt Company on N.C. 18 and Grayson Street, and a second location towards the far end of the park itself near the stream bordering the property.

The proposal for a skateboard park first was brought before the town council in December 2006 when Eagle Scout candidate Coalbey Murphy initially introduced council to the Razors Edge Skate Park project. At that time, the estimated cost of the project exceeded $89,000.
