Over 20 riders competed in the 4-H Open Youth Horse Show last Friday
night at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds.
The event, co-sponsored by the Alleghany County 4-H Club, the Young
Riders 4-H Club and the Horse Whispers 4-H Club, featured
competitions in three age groups: Cloverbud (ages 8 and under),
Junior (9-12) and Senior (13-18).
"This was our first attempt to have a show that was mainly for fun,
and I think everybody had a good time," said 4-H spokesperson Donna
Hash. "The important thing is that everybody had fun, nobody got hurt
and the kids got to spend time bonding with their horses. We're
looking forward to getting the three clubs together so we can make
some changes and improve the show for next year."
Kimberly Bingham was named champion for the Senior division, Hannah
Ruegsegger was the reserve champion and Lacey Jaye Souther got the
good sport award.
Avery Hash was the champion in the Junior division and Victoria Kastl
was the reserve champion. Avery Hash also received the good sport award.
