Commission upholds planners’ vote on concrete plant

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners voted July 2 by a 4-1 margin to uphold a decision by the Alleghany Planning Board to not allow a concrete plant to locate on Glade Valley Road.

Town votes to support VFW effort

During the July 3 meeting of the Sparta Town Council, a resolution was passed in support of an unit adoption effort initiated by the Bruce Wayne Osborne Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 7034 and its ladies auxiliary.

The beginning of summer has marked the arrival of several volunteers to Alleghany County, who plan to better the lives of local residents through various building ministries.

School enrollment age is adjusted statewide

Per a bill recently signed by Governor Mike Easley, children who are planning to enroll in school during the first 120 days of the 2009-2010 school year will be required to reach the age of five on or before Aug. 31.
