A tax rate of 43 cents per $100 valuation for the 2007-08 fiscal year was approved June 26 by the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners.
The approved general fund total of $14,724,253 shows a slight increase over the proposed budget total of $14,545,585.
In a budget ordinance document given to the commissioners by County Manager Don Adams, it read, "There is hereby levied a tax rate of 43 cents per $100 valuation of property listed for taxes as of Jan. 1, 2007 for the purpose of raising the revenues listed as "current year's property tax and penalties” in the general fund...This rate of tax is based on an estimated total valuation of property for the purpose of taxation at $1,754,624,750 and an estimated tax collection rate of 96 percent.”
The budget ordinance included an additional 28 sections. The sections
included, but were not limited to, $289,354 in appropriations and
revenues for the Alleghany Economic Development Fund, $400,000 in
appropriations and revenues for the Alleghany County Scattered Site
Grant Fund, and $309,215 in appropriations and revenues for the
Alleghany County Transportation Fund. Also included was $23,994 for
operation expenses and revenues for the Alleghany County Fairgrounds
Fund, $2,260 in appropriations and revenues for the Alleghany County
Special Revenue Drug Fund, $55,157 in appropriations and revenues for
the Register of Deeds Enhancement Fund, $26,582 in appropriations and
revenues for the county library fund, $41,000 in appropriations and
revenues for the Revaluation Fund, and $576,269 in appropriations and
revenues for the School Capital Reserve Fund.
