The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Alleghany County was
a success before opening ceremonies began last Friday evening at
Woodruff Stadium.

"We reached our goal of $34,000 before the relay began, and that doesn't happen very often," commented Relay For Life of Alleghany Event Chair Kristi Hoke. "As of Monday we had raised over $43,000, and the fund-raising continues until Aug. 31."
In the photo at left, children participate in the
kid's walk during the event. The event features teams, which
typically raise money and then walk throughout the night on the track
surrounding the football field. A total of 21 teams took part. The
event had raised a total of $43,000 by Monday, said Event Chair
Kristi Hoke in an interview. The goal for the event was $34,000.
