Renovations to the Crouse House in Floyd Crouse and Sarah Ellen Gambill Crouse Park in Sparta, which began in fall 2005, likely will be completed in late July, Town Manager Bryan Edwards said in an interview last week.

The house, which is the property of the Town of Sparta, was built in the early 1900s and was later donated to the town by the Crouse family. The house is being refurbished and updated with help from a $13,500 grant through North Carolina Department of Parks and Recreation. The grant, which was obtained in 2003, has led to a number of improvements in the historic home. In fact, the house is slated to undergo improvements with a final price tag ranging between $30,000 and $35,000. Edwards said last Monday that the renovations will maintain the style and character of the early 20th century house.

Travis Osborne Construction was hired for the renovation work, which includes new windows and yellow vinyl siding, as well as a new green metal roof that is slated for installation later this month.
