Public hearing on county budget is held Monday evening

Turnout was lower than expected for a public hearing on the Alleghany County budget Monday night, according to Alleghany County Commission Chairman Ken Richardson.

Crouse Park house work nears end

Renovations to the Crouse House in Floyd Crouse and Sarah Ellen Gambill Crouse Park in Sparta, which began in fall 2005, likely will be completed in late July, Town Manager Bryan Edwards said in an interview last week.

Events set for weekend

Two events are scheduled for this weekend. On Friday, Alleghany Memorial Hospital and the Alleghany Wellness Center will host a "Be Happy, Be Healthy Community Health Fair.

Relay for Life exceeds $34,000 goal

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Alleghany County was a success before opening ceremonies began last Friday evening at Woodruff Stadium.
