Several events are planned this weekend in Sparta, including a street dance, the annual Relay for Life and an Alleghany Mower Racing Association (AMRA) lawnmower race benefitting the Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department.
The Relay for Life will be held on Friday night and Saturday morning at Woodruff Field on Trojan Avenue in Sparta, while the mower race will be held Saturday evening at the Justice Carlisle Higgins Agricultural Fairgrounds (Alleghany Fair-grounds) on U.S. 21 just north of Sparta.
The mower race will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday and is part of the Tarheel Lumber Racing Points Series.
The All American Street Dance, part of the annual June Jamboree, is planned for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Village Shopping Center. Street Dance
The All American Street Dance, which will be held in the parking lot of Trojan Village Shopping Center, includes food, music and dancing. Music for the event will be "Uncle Nave" Blevins and the Big Country Bluegrass band.
The music will begin at 7:30 p.m. and also features a special performance by the Alleghany Cloggers.
Seating will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis for the
event and lawn chairs are welcomed. There is no charge for the event.
