The Blue Ridge Sports Car Hillclimb will not return to Alleghany in August, ending an annual event that began here in 2003. The event pitted drivers against Doughton Mountain Road, off N.C. 18 south of Sparta, in timed runs.
Spokespeople for the event cited several changes in interviews, but chief problems appeared to be funding and the challenge-level of the course.
A new hillclimb event, dubbed the Wolf Ridge Hillclimb, will be
hosted at a private resort called Wolf Laurel & Scenic Wolf Mountain
Resort in Madison County near Mars Hill and Asheville.
