The Alleghany Mower Racing Association held its first race of the 2007 season last Saturday night at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds. The event was the first points race of the year in the Tarheel Lumber Racing Series.
The race, dubbed the CarQuest Spring Mowdown, was held as a fund-
raiser for the Alleghany Fair Committee.
There were 181 mowers entered in the event, said AMRA spokesman Walt
Green.
A total of about 2,100 people attended the event. "I think it's the biggest one we've ever had," said Green. "It was just a great night for everybody."
The next race is scheduled June 2 in North Wilkesboro at the Rotary
Club Fairgrounds at 5 p.m.
