Commission: County can't fund new school now

County Manager Don Adams was directed to inform Alleghany County Schools Superintendent Jeff Cox that the board of commission is not in the position to fund the building of a middle school nor the recurring costs related to it.

About 30 individuals were in attendance April 26 when the Alleghany County Board of Education held its public hearing on the school assignment policy regulations.

Superior Court holds session in Alleghany

Jose Antonio Hurtado was sentenced to no less than 35 months and no more than 42 months in the department of corrections in relation to drug-related charges, including trafficking in cocaine during an April 23 session of Alleghany County Criminal Superior Court.
