Council 'talks trash'

Concerns over trash emptying onto Sparta streets were addressed during the March 6 meeting of the Sparta Town Council.

Council member Mike Parlier stated he was of the opinion that individuals who live in town limits should use a trash can as a means to keep the streets from becoming littered when strong gusts of winds, such as those that have been experienced in the area recently.

"I'd like to see us get back to using these town garbage cans," he said. Mayor John Miller replied, if residents don't make use of the town's trash cans, they would have to use one of their own. Miller then pointed out the use of town trash cans had been made mandatory in previous years.

"I think we could make it mandatory in that they had to have a trash can, but it's recommended that they use a town's trash can." Making mention of the town's ordinance, Town Manager Bryan Edwards said, "It says in the ordinance 'suitable containers.'
