Fire staging (76K)
Fireman 3-15 (132K) Sparta firemen were on the scene of this fire for about two-and-a- half hours after a trash barrell ignited dry grass and then an outbuilding at a home on Rifle Range Road.

Recent brush fires reported

Two brush fires were reported last week, prompting fire chiefs to urge local residents to restrict burning at least until rainfall is recorded.

"It's been awful dry," said Sparta-Alleghany Fire Chief Terry McGrady. "Until we get a good soaking rain, it's a very dangerous time to be burning."

Saturday's fire marked the eighth in three weeks (including helping other departments) for the Piney Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Larry Adams noted.
