The staff of The Alleghany News was presented an award for its news coverage at a banquet hosted by the North Carolina Press Association on Feb. 22.
The newspaper was awarded second place in the state in its size division for its news coverage.
Two complete newspapers from July 2006 served as the newspaper's entry in the category.
A total of 18 newspapers in community division B, which is made up of community newspapers with total circulation of 3,500 to 10,000 newspapers per week. Weekly printing runs for The Alleghany News averages press runs of 5,000 newspapers per week.
Judges for the contest stated, "I learned a lot about the community/ region from reading this paper. Lots of good pictures!"
Editor Coby LaRue picked up the award in Raleigh on behalf of the
newspaper.
