Total of 22 Alleghany bridges listed as substandard in report

A total of 22 bridges in Alleghany County were deemed substandard, according to information released last month by AAA Carolinas.

Heart Auction raises $14,540

The 40th annual WCOK (1060AM) Alleghany Heart Fund Auction raised $7,889 on its second and final week to end the event with $14,540.

Corrections

Due to an error, two mistakes were printed in a story last week about a proposed planning board ordinance. Mark Sanders expressed an interest in being interviewed for the planning board at the meeting on Feb. 19, but did not ask to be placed on the board, as the story said. In addition, Don Adams said he wouldn't think the planning board's operations would be much different from the county commission's, not the opposite as the story indicated.
