With excerpts from the speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. playing in the background, local residents gathered to honor the late civil rights leader with prayer and memories of days gone by. Speakers at the event included Charity Gambill, Carol Bryan, Leslie Choate, George Bryan and the Rev. James Worrell.
About 20 people attended the event, said Choate, who was the event's organizer. "I was very happy that everything went so well," she said. "We were all pleased to be able to gather together in honor of the late Dr. King."
In her remarks at the meeting, Choate noted that King was the most
famous leader of the American civil rights movement, a political
activist and a Baptist minister.
