The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners held its first meeting in the new County Administration Building, located in the former Cash and Carry building at 348 S. Main St., on Jan. 3.
Efforts on the part of the members of the Alleghany County Ministerium to find a location for youth to gather have come to a standstill after learning the funds needed to purchase property off of U.S. 21 were out of the financial reach of the organization.

During the Christmas season, Alleghany County Schools tried out a new phone system that allows a message to be recorded and sent to a large number of staff members, parents and guardians simultaneously.

The year 2006 was marked by sweeping changes in politics, much- anticipated court rulings and more than its share of tragedy. Three murders were reported, along with a fatal motorcycle accident near the Parkway.
