CHRISTMAS SCENES - The Tree of Lights at Hospice of Alleghany was illuminated on Monday night as local volunteers and staff and family members gathered for the event and a memorial service that was held afterwards at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home.

In the photo at right, Bob Richardson of Osborne Memorial Baptist Church and Destiny Blevins of Liberty Baptist portray Mary and Joseph as they make their way down Main Street in Sparta to the live nativity scene at Trojan Village Shopping Center.
sThe live nativity was held Dec. 9 from 6 p.m. until
9 p.m. Richardson said the two churches participated in the event,
which was organized by the Alleghany Baptist Youth Committee.
Several other churches were scheduled to take part, but illness and
the cold temperatures kept some at home. "It did get pretty intense
out there after the sun went down," said Richardson. He noted that
several people stopped to offer their appreciation. "They told us,
‘Thanks for portraying what it's all about;' that's why we did it,"
he said.
