Ken Richardson was unanimously elected chairman of the Alleghany County Commission during the first meeting of the new board on Monday night. Three new members were sworn in earlier that day—Milly Richardson, Randy Miller and Doug Murphy—and the meeting marked their first as commissioners. A number of people were in the audience for the meeting. The meetings have typically been sparsely attended.
The new commissioners are replacing Graylen Blevins, who opted not to
run for office, as well as Eldon Edwards and Sandy Carter Herndon,
both of whom were defeated in the November election. Edwards was
chair of the commission and J. Warren Taylor was vice chair.
Taylor was re-elected as vice chair Monday night.
