The Angel Tree project, begun by Alleghany resident Cora Neville several years ago, is in need of donations ranging from gifts for children who have yet to be chosen by members of the community to wrapping paper and tape.
A total of 125 children ages birth through 12 years of age were selected to participate in the Angel Tree project. According to Pastor Pamela Caudill with New Directions Youth Ministries, about half of the angels have yet to be selected by individuals in the community. Caudill also serves as the vice president for Cora's Charities.
"Angel Tree would like to thank the individuals in the county who have chosen to adopt children in conjunction with the annual Angel Tree project," she said. "However, about half of the 125 angels have not been selected and we are asking the community to support the remaining children through selecting them at Hardee's, Food Lion or Lowes Food."
Caudill stated if the remaining 62 or 63 children are not selected soon, the organization will face a need for new or nearly new clothing, along with a need for new or refurbished toys. She reminds the community that it is not necessary to purchase all of the gifts requested by the child.
"Our hope is for all of the 125 angels to be chosen."
