Several elected officials were sworn in by Superior Court Judge Richard L. Doughton on Monday morning inside the courtroom of the newly renovated Alleghany County Courthouse.

Sworn in were the new county commissioners, Randy Miller, Doug Murphy and Milly Richardson; re-elected Clerk of Superior Court Susie Gambill; new Sheriff David "Squeak" Edwards; re-elected Soil and Water Conservation District Board Members Terry Hall and Paul Edwards; and Board of Education members Betsy Dillon and Mitch Franklin. The renovated Courthouse was reopened last week, with several offices, including an office for Judge Doughton, assistant district attorney, adult and juvenile probation and parole, Clerk of Superior Court, opening to the public in the new building for the first time.

The space in the County Administration Building that was occupied by the Courthouse offices is now being touched up and revamped to host several other offices. Those include the county manager's office and commissioners' meeting room, board of elections, finance office and emergency management.
