The Angel Tree project, begun by Alleghany resident Cora Neville several years ago, is in need of donations ranging from gifts for children who have yet to be chosen by members of the community to wrapping paper and tape.

School Board talks about redistricting

Due to the increasing enrollments at Sparta Elementary and the dwindling enrollments at Piney Creek and to a lesser extent Glade Creek, the Alleghany County Board of Education is discussing the possibility of beginning to enforce existing district lines.

McIntyre gets wish when sworn in as deputy here

During his eight short years, youngster Hunter McIntyre has been certified as a deputy sheriff in two locations, formerly at his hometown of Orlando, Fla. and most recently here in Alleghany on Nov. 26.
