Proposed prison near Cox's Chapel draws protests in Grayson

INDEPENDENCE, Va. - A medium security prison may be located just over the North Carolina line in the Cox's Chapel community, according to an announcement made at the Grayson County Courthouse here on Nov. 9.

Town applies for grant

The town has opted to apply for a 2006 Economic Development Reserve grant, which could make as much as $500,000 available through the Department of Commerce for the Sparta Teapot Museum.

Reeves' sentencing details are released

Donna Faye Atkins Reeves was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison on Oct. 23 and ordered to pay almost $13,000 in restitution, according to documents provided by the U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday and signed by U.S. District Judge Richard L. Voorhees.

Angel Tree to serve 125 children; donations needed

Those interested in participating in the annual Angel Tree project by purchasing items for less fortunate children in the area are asked to select an 'angel' at Food Lion, Hardee's or Lowes Foods in Sparta.
