Superintendent Jeff Cox was directed by the members of the board of education to write a letter to J.R. Vannoy and Sons, the Jefferson- based construction firm working on the eight classroom and multipurpose room addition at Sparta School. The letter will address the boards' concern about the lack of progress on the project that began in the spring.
During the Sept. 6 meeting of the board of education, Randy Baker, who serves as an architect with Pinnacle Architecture in Matthews, stated that J.R. Vannoy and Sons expects to completed with the work by the end of September.
"We've got a schedule, they're saying they're supposed to be finished by the end of September," Baker told the members of the Alleghany County Board of Education during a Sept. 6 meeting. " I'm hesitant to say that with the progress that we've seen so far."
Baker stated through meetings he and Superintendent Jeff Cox have had with Roger Childress of J.R. Vannoy and Sons, the construction firm has had problems with material deliveries. One of the deliveries is that of exterior doors for the building, that Baker told the board members should be delivered this week.
"They have painted inside, but they're going to have to back and sand
the walls and repaint," Baker said. "It's like a garage. If you leave
the doors open, wind blows through, you're going to get dust on your
walls."
