About 30 people attended the second meeting discussing a potential youth center for the county. During the meeting in which members of Boy Scout Troop No. 299 were present, Scout Coalbey Murphy made his proposal for a skateboard park on the premises of the potential center.
"To be an Eagle Scout, I have to do a project," Murphy said. "I'm a skateboarder and almost everyone I know is a skateboarder and there's nowhere in Sparta for us to really skateboard. We have to drive about an hour away (to skateboard)."
Murphy told the audience, "It's not really that safe and it's against
the rules to skateboard in Sparta. To get this built, I would have to
raise the money. We went online and found a few grants that would
match up to $25,000. The price of the park I'm trying to get built
would be about $90,000.
