Schools adopt budgetThe members of the Alleghany County Board of Education approved the interim budget resolution for the 2006-07 fiscal year during a June 30 meeting.

Volunteers build playground for Firehouse KidsWhen children return to the preschool adjacent to Glade Creek School this fall, the "Firehouse Kids" will have a new playground.CorrectionDue to a reporting error, the name of Rudolph Edwards was incorrectly listed as Rudolph Crouse in a story in last week's edition of the newspaper that preceded the July 4 events. Edwards, a World War II veteran, was honored along with Cleo Reeves by being named grand marshals of the event.
