Edwards and Reeves are parade marshals

"We The People - And Our Pets" is the theme for the 2006 July 4th parade through downtown Sparta and organizers are inviting participation by citizens and their well-behaved pet friends. "When the idea was suggested, everyone thought it would add special interest to the parade to include pets," Barbara Lucier, Main Street Program coordinator, said.

The Sparta Revitalization Committee is again sponsoring the parade, which will be held on Saturday, July 1, beginning at 4 p.m. Grand Marshals for this year's event will be two World War II veterans: Rudolph Edwards and Cleo Reeves.

Reeves served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 in the European Theatre of operations. He served in the Battle of the Bulge. Reeves retired from the postal service after 32 years, including seven as a mail carrier. Reeves also was the proprietor, along with wife Faye, of the Village Shoe-In store in Trojan Village Shopping Center for 20 years.
