During a joint meeting of the Alleghany County Commission and Alleghany Board of Education, the commissioners opted to table further discussions on potential middle school options until their scheduled May 15 meeting. Commissioner Graylen Blevins was absent and Commissioner J. Warren Taylor departed early from the May 8 meeting. Following the May 15 meeting, representatives from the commission, board of education and other staff, are slated to discuss the funding issues faced by the county with the Local Government Commission on May 23.
Superintendent Jeff Cox said the school board, at the request of the
commissioners, went through previously presented plans and made further
cuts in an attempt to reduce the cost. Cox then told commissioners they
were presented with a document that addressed needs.
