North Carolina Education Lottery tickets went on sale last Thursday and
several stores saw an increase in traffic due to ticket sales. In the
photo above left, Betty Church of Betty’s Conven-ience Store and Deli sells
a ticket to Michael Lyall of Sparta. Lyall said he frequently travelled
to Virginia to buy tickets in the past, but now will buy them here.
Gene Irwin (photo at right) said he bought two $5 tickets, “cause I’m
going to win.” He noted that he hopes the lottery will help fund
education in Alleghany County.
