March Superior Court Session, lasting only two days, is reported

Duane Edgar “Dewey” Brooks’ first degree murder case was postponed until August 7 during the March session of Alleghany County Superior Court.

Tag office to close for move

Sparta’s branch of the North Carolina License Plate Agency, operated by Georgia Warden, has closed down temporarily and is moving to a new location.

Election registration deadline is April 7

The deadline for registering to vote in the May 2 primary election is Friday, April 7 for all unregistered voters.

Sparta men charged in Grayson drug bust

MOUTH OF WILSON, Va.—Two men listing addresses in Sparta have been charged in Grayson County, Va. with transporting methamphetamine across state lines, according to a release from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.

Give Kids a Smile Day observed

About 19 elementary school students participated March 24 in the seventh annual Give Kids a Smile Day, where they had their teeth examined by Dr. Terry Johnson and members of his staff.

100 Passengers - Mitchell’s book chronicles her spiritual journey

Margaret D. Mitchell, the daughter of Sparta residents Booker C. and Georgia DeBord, recently wrote a non-fiction book based on her workplace mission work. “100 Passengers” is slated to hit the stands in July.
