Town of Sparta is selected to take part in STEP program

The Town of Sparta has been selected to participate in NC STEP, a three-year demonstration designed to spur economic activity in small towns through a program of strategic resource investments.

Wellness Center Celebrates Two Years

The Alleghany Wellness Center held its second birthday celebration on March 11. The event included a community rummage sale, dedication of a new sand volleyball court, a magic show, a bake sale and a poor mans lunch.

Dropout rate up in Alleghany

Although the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction reports a decrease in the high school dropout rate in the state, the number of dropouts in Alleghany County is on the rise, according to information released March 1 by the department.
