In December 2005, employees at a local construction business took part in helping a Blacksburg, Va. woman have a brand new, three-bedroom handicapped-accessible home.
Employees at TruLine Truss assisted ABC-affiliated “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” by providing 105 trusses to the construction of her home, according to General Manager Daryl Blevins. The Sparta-based company was brought in on the “Makeover” project by Cliff Neal, with commercial sales in Lowe’s Hardware in Christiansburg, Va. after another truss company opted not to participate.
Blevins stated, despite the business’ unusually busy schedule, staff members quickly agreed to donate time and energy to the project.
“It was a very good rally here, a lot of teamwork, the best teamwork I’ve seen,” Blevins said. “The guys in the plant were absolutely delighted. They can’t wait to see it (the show) on TV to see something they actually built and had something to do with being shown.”
Blevins stated, whether or not the business is mentioned on national television, the employees at TruLine will “just be delighted” to see a truss on the show and say to themselves and others, “Hey, I built that truss;” “I cut it;” or “I inspected it.”
In terms of receiving national recognition on television, “It would be nice,” Blevins said with a big smile. “(That way,) we could say, ‘Hey, look! We’re on the map!’
“It takes a team effort to pull something off that big, that quick,”
Blevins continued.
